FC S4F Filter How it works This is a new filter we are pleased to be able to offer. Unlike the proxy filter, your internet connection is not directed through the proxy, so your connection speed is unhampered, and you get the full speed of your connection. Perfect for DSL and CABLE as well as Dialup connections. The database resides on the server and is automatically updated daily. A small software component is loaded onto your PC that directs your internet requests to the filter. If the URL is allowed, you go directly to the site. If, not you get a block message. Types of Filtering and How they work:
Inline Server Side Filtering Back Filtering that is performed at the ISP before it reaches your PC. Filtering is done "inline", that is, the filter is placed between your computer and your internet connection. No browser settings are required. It filters all requests for information from the internet. This filtering can not be turned off. This filter is no longer offered by Family's Choice	Inline Filtering. Client / Server Side S4F Filtering Back Filter has a client side and server side component. Client side "agent" is installed on your PC.The agent monitors all requests to the internet. When a request is made for a web page, agent sends the URL request to the server side database. Database returns whether the site is okay or not. If okay, you're connected through your ISP connection; otherwise a block message is displayed. This filter must be ordered separately. Proxy Server Filtering Back Filtering that is performed at the ISP, by a proxy server. This is accomplished by setting the browser to direct all requests for internet information through the proxy server instead of directly to the Internet. The proxy server filters the requests, and returns sites that are not on the filter block list. This filter is provided by Igear and is included with Family's Choice accounts. We-Blocker: Allows "profiles" for what you want blocked for different age groups. Only available with Economy account This filter is included on the Family's Choice CD ROM - provided to Internet access customers.
