Family's Choice Internet Chat Statement

Since so many of the problems associated with the Internet begin in public chat rooms, Family's Choice recommends against teens and children using public chat rooms. To help avoid abuse in this area, Family's Choice offers chat limited to our Ask the Pastor Forum. (We are fully aware, however, that since chat is so prevalent on the internet, those who really want to use this feature will find it elsewhere. )

Family's Choice recommends the following Chat policies for children and teens:

1. Do not use public chat rooms
2. Chat only with friends you knew before in the internet.
3. Use tools such as Netscape's AOL Instant Messenger to conduct only private chat sessions with friends you already know.
4. Never divulge personal information about yourself to people you meet over the intenet.
5. If somehow you do meet someone through chat, unless you are an adult, never meet anyone you meet on the internet alone.
